Premium structure
Protection premiums are reviewed periodically based on the premium review period shown in the policy schedule; premiums change as the life assured gets older, when cover changes, when sum insured changes due to inflation (CPI-linked), when protection premium rates change, or when discounts change. Each cover may have a different premium review period. Protection premium rates for some covers are guaranteed until the end of the premium review period; for non-guaranteed covers, rates can change on the next anniversary date. Policy fee may also change from the next anniversary date.

Suicide exclusion period
If the life insured's death or terminal illness is caused or contributed to, directly or indirectly, by suicide, attempted suicide or intentional self-injury within 13 months of the cover start date or from the date the policy was reinstated after being cancelled. This applies whether the life insured is sane or insane. If the Life Cover Amount is increased within 13 months before the life insured's death by suicide, attempted suicide or intentional self-injury, we'll only pay the Life Cover Amount that applied immediately before the increase.
Premium structure
Stepped premiums that adjust each year on the anniversary date as the life insured gets older. Chubb Life may also change premium rates for all LifeOne policies from time to time, with at least 30 days notice before any changes. An annual CPI-linked cover increase of up to 10% is offered each year, with premiums adjusted accordingly.

What to compare on

  1. Premium at your age and sum-insured. Quote Chubb Life NZ plus two or three other NZ insurers.
  2. Stepped vs level premium structure. Decide between low entry premium that rises with age, or flatter whole-of-life cost.
  3. Terminal illness benefit. Confirm the trigger wording and amount in the policy document.
  4. Future insurability. Ability to increase cover at life events without fresh underwriting.
  5. Exclusions. Read the wording, not the marketing summary.
