An option to receive the life sum insured early on terminal diagnosis (typically <12 months prognosis).

Definition

Most NZ life policies include or offer a terminal illness benefit that advances the death benefit when two doctors certify life expectancy is below a defined threshold (usually 12 months). Practical use: end-of-life family time, paying down debts before death, funding medical care.
